Time to stop bitching and start pitching

Well, so far 2018 has just been one personal crisis after the other. I probably should've purchased shares in Kleenex before the year started because I have certainly gone through more than my fair share of tissues this year. I have also cried down the phone to my mum twice so far, that is double last year and we are only in May. Yup, to say everything's gone a little wrong would feel like somewhat of a heartbreaking understatement.
But a few weeks ago a came across a quote that has really stuck with me, and that quote is also the name of this post 'stop bitching and start pitching'. This stuck with me for one very important reason, nothing will ever change if I just sit here and wallow. So what if something has gone a little wrong along the way, there is always 100 million others things you can be doing, and unless you have done EVERYTHING in your power to improve your life, build your career, lose that weight, then you absolutely cannot complain.
I don't even think I realise just how much I'm doing it to be honest, because if I did I'm sure I would be appaled. Imagine if everytime I started with the sentence 'I'm so fed up with ..' I was actually doing something about it. I'm not a complacent person and I work really hard at my job, what I'm trying to change is that there is always that 10% more I can be doing. And that is what I'm going to start doing.
I have also come across setting 'monthly intentions' recently. I really like this idea. It gives you a month to try something you intend to do, and then review it at the end of the month and see what you achieved and what you missed out on. I think this reflection every four or so months is what does make the absolute difference. If something didn't work you have a nice reflective chance to discover why and what the next steps should be.
All I'm really trying to say is that the time I typically spend watching Netflix or other streaming services can easily go from my life to be filled with worthwhile activities that will help me grow and achieve the life-long goals I have. Although I will still be indulging in the new episodes of Suits and Jane the Virgin though - you know everything in moderation!
Being in your 20s feels like a crazy ride where you are somewhere between coasting along and carving out the life you really want for yourself, and it's so easy to do the latter. Its comfortable and easy, and here's the best thing you really don't have to do anything out of your routine. But making a more conscious effort to actually go home and work on yourself after working an intense shift at work is exactly what pushes your forward.
So here is to continually making mistakes this year, and you never know, I might actually make it out of 2018 alive.

The term was coined by Ian Elliot and Marty Kellard in a 1940 book of the same name click here to read the Goodreads profile of it
I first read about 'monthly intentions' on TheEverygirl, to read their full post and download some useful printables click here
